A STRIKING photographic portrait of a Dickson College student is the winner in the inaugural “People’s Choice” award selected from the recent “College Express 5” show at Belconnen Arts Centre of works by talented young artists in Years 11 and 12.
Sally-Forth… “Very surprised”.
We weren’t surprised, nor was College Express Belconnen Arts Centre director Daniel Ballantyne, who described it as “eye popping and very beautiful.”
A part of a series which also included two landscapes taken in front of Mt Dromedary near Tilba, the photograph of the artist’s girlfriend, Rosie Zatscheler, was intended as part of an experiment in perceptions.
That and her photographic work earned Sally-Forth 100 per cent final assessment at her college and a place in RMIT University’s highly competitive graphic design course. “I can’t wait to get there,” she told “CityNews”.
It’s not the first time that Sally-Forth, the daughter of Canberra arts identities, Andy Heaney and Anne Garzoli, has been singled out for notice.
Shortly after her birth in 1995, “The Sydney Morning Herald” listed hers as one of the “most unusual names” of the year.
