JOY Burch has launched Google Apps for Education in ACT public schools at Lake Tuggeranong College.
“The ACT is truly leading the nation with learning that is anytime, anywhere,” Joy said.
“Google Apps for Education offer online tools for classroom collaboration. They provide students and teachers with unlimited cloud storage in Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides and provide students with email and other modern online communication tools, with parental consent.
“This initiative will enable our teachers to better support how our young people use the internet in ways that are safe and focussed on learning. We are building capacity in our students to be capable global digital citizens.
“The trial proved to be very successful amongst participating schools and will continue to be rolled out to all ACT public schools throughout 2015. Students will be using modern and practical online tools in the school setting – just as they do at home.
Joy also highlighted the value of the upcoming Google Education Summit, to be hosted at Gungahlin College this weekend, as a great opportunity for ACT educators to collaborate and share best practice in a range of Google tools to promote student learning.
“The Education and Training Directorate has partnered with Google Education and EDTech to host Canberra’s first ever Google Summit, and only the third such event to be hosted in Australia, to support schools using Google Apps for Education.
“I encourage attendees to make the most of this unique opportunity to hear from experts around the world, learn new skills and engage with this wonderful, innovative resource,” Ms Burch said.
