ASSEMBLY Speaker Vicki Dunne says that after a merit-based recruitment process the Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green, has been re-appointed for a term of five years.
Vicki made the appointment on behalf of the Assembly.
“The Electoral Commissioner is independent of government as an officer of the Assembly under the Electoral Act 1992 after amendments that were made to the Act last year,” Vicki said.
“This is the first time the Speaker has overseen the recruitment and appointment process.
“As the ACT’s Electoral Commissioner over the past 20 years, Mr Green has served with distinction.
“His innovative approach to how elections are run has led the nation.
“The Commission is currently managing the redistribution of electorate boundaries to usher in the Assembly’s new structure of five 5-member electorates. I am pleased that Mr Green will be able to continue that work, as well as to prepare the ACT for the next election, in October 2016.
“On behalf of the Assembly, I congratulate Mr Green and wish him continuing success in his next term as Electoral Commissioner,” Mrs Dunne said.
