THE number of ACT drivers caught under the influence of drugs has risen, according to ACT Police. 
During a drink and drug driving blitz between November and January, police conducted 42,231 roadside random breath tests, removing 301 drink-drivers from Canberra roads, while 48 drivers were under the influence of illicit drugs.
In the same period last year, police caught more drink drivers (343), but less were found to be influenced by drugs (10).
Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Rod Anderson says the rise in drivers under the influence of illicit drugs is “disappointing”.
“Random roadside drug testing is a key strategy in the ACT Government’s road safety approach and like drink driving is about removing impaired drivers from our roads — drivers that pose the highest risk,” he says.
ACT Policing will target speeding motorists during February.
