MICK Gentleman says the ACT Government has passed changes making the unit titling process easier for applicants through red tape reduction regulation.
“The Government has responded to industry concerns about unnecessary red tape in the unit titling approval process by undertaking a review and implementing recommended changes to the Unit Titles regulations,” Mick said.
“By making some small changes to the Unit Titles regulations the government has broadened the list of additional features permissible within a unit title application.
“Until now only encroachments on public unleased land by eaves, gutters, downpipes, and awnings can occur without affecting the approval of a unit title application.
“Today’s change provides for a range of above-ground attachments including fixtures and fittings such as air conditioners, fire alarm systems, light fittings and security alarms to be included in a units’ plan.
“Architectural embellishments such as vertical and horizontal fin blades, decorative brackets and screens, planter boxes and window shutters can also be included, as can artworks and signs.
“This sensible change will provide increased flexibility for developers and remove the need for the developer to have to buy the air space for such minor aerial encroachments.
“The Government is pleased to be able to provide this red tape reduction initiative which will reduce delays in approvals of unit titling applications, remove unnecessary expense for the developer and support the ACT’s building industry,” Minister Gentleman concluded.
