THERE have been reports this morning that the Skywhale had slipped the surly bonds of earth for the last time.
Chief Minister Barr has taken to Twitter to calm the horses:
Keep Calm – #Skywhale won't be flying in the 2015 #CBR #BalloonSpectacular but she hasn’t flown her last flight. #StillLifeInTheOldGirl
— Andrew Barr (@ABarrMLA) March 6, 2015
We’ve asked for more information and will report it when we have it.
UPDATE: The Chief Minister’s office has expanded with this statement:
The ACT Government does not own Skywhale.
She flies regularly around Australia and around the world.
As with all balloons, life span depends on usage- so Skywhale’s lifespan will depend on how often and how long she flies.
Skywhale may one day return to Canberra depending on her other commitments.
The Yoda balloon and an Angry Birds balloon will headline the 2015 Balloon Spectacular event.
