A 41-year-old Dunlop woman was caught drink driving by ACT Policing with two young children in the car last night (Thursday, February 19).
About 11.15pm police received a report from a member of the public of a possibly intoxicated woman driving a car with children inside.
Police attended Kerrigan Street in Dunlop and observed a car swerving over the road before it came to a stop. Two young children, aged 2 and 6 years old, were located in the back passenger seats.
The woman underwent a roadside breath test returning a result that exceeded the prescribed concentration. She was taken to the Belconnen Police Station where a breath analysis was conducted, returning a result of 0.208.
Officer in Charge Traffic Operations Station Sergeant Susan Ball said the situation defied belief.
“Drivers who choose to get behind the wheel drunk are a serious risk to themselves, their passengers and anyone else around them on the road,” Sergeant Ball said.
“It’s disappointing that anyone would drive while drunk, let alone with two young children in the car.”
“In this case, we’re extremely thankful that an observant member of the public did the right thing and called police, and we were able to remove this person from our roads.”
The woman will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
