ALISTAIR Coe says that news the ACT government has paid $27,000 to develop a calendar for media events and stories to be rolled out over the next 12 months is another display of wasteful spending.

“This is an obscene amount of money to be spent organising a calendar,” Alistair said.

“This particular contract requires a third party to develop a 12 month calendar of media events, as well as work with the Capital Metro executive to ‘define the story, the messages, topics and type of content’,” Mr Coe said.

“The contract was signed in November 2014 and is available on the ACT Government Contracts Register.” [Link]

“Over the last year, the ACT Government has spent over $300,000 promoting light rail and this is another example of desperate wasteful spending. If light rail was good policy, the government wouldn’t need to devote such time and money in order to sell the project.

“Simon Corbell and Shane Rattenbury can’t effectively sell light rail, so they are using taxpayer’s money to try and do it for them. It speaks volumes that if the major proponents can’t sell a pet project, it mustn’t be worthy of such a huge expense,” Mr Coe concluded.
