CANBERRA School of Bollywood Dancing is out to astonish Canberrans during the coming National Multicultural Festival with a “Bollywood Flash Mob.”image022

Performing for the eighth year in a row at the festival, more than 50 students both adults and children from the School will perform popular Bollywood hits in a 30 minute showcase titled “Bollywood takes on Canberra.”

And that’s not all. There’ll also be a showcase of ‘Bollywood Zumba’ and a Bollywood workshop to get the public up and dancing too.

According to the school’s director, Krisha Jilson, 90 per cent of the Bollywood performers are non-Indians, proof to her of the success of Multiculturalism in the ACT.

“They love the upbeat music and the gorgeous outfits and jewellery,” she speculates, adding, “Bollywood dance is a fantastic workout. It’s upbeat, energetic and gets a sweat happening pretty fast. It’s also so much fun and makes you laugh”.

Jilson says more than 1,000 students have danced their way through her school over eight years. It’s not  a professional troupe, but rather school students, working mothers, full-time workers and  mums, with a general age-range from  4 to 60+.

“It’s so much fun, silly, sexy and totally engrossing you won’t even know it’s doing you good,” she claims.

As for that Flash mob, you’ll just have to be in Civic when they’re performing.

Canberra School of Bollywood Dancing, Petrie Plaza stage, 7.05pm, February 8, free performance.
