Award-winning Canberra filmmaker, Sotiris Dounoukos, not long back from his big win at the Toronto Film Festival, will be introducing films through the event and the opening this evening Thursday December 4 at 6pm (for 6:30pm screening), will offer Greek food and wine, Greek music played by a fifteen-piece Mandolin Orchestra and of course the screening of the new film “Little England,” a lavish period drama which won Best Film and Best Cinematography at the Hellenic Film Academy Awards and was Greece’s entry for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.

Tomorrow, Friday December 5, we’ll get to see Dounoukos own short film, “A Single Body,” (Un Seul Corps) followed by the feature “Miss Violence”, a winner at last year’s Venice Film Festival.

With the weather now so warm, closing night of the Greek Film Festival will take place in the A. Baker Courtyard from 7:15pm this Sunday December 7 when there’ll be a screening of the original 1979 “Mad Max” with restaurant service. Film writer and actor Nico Lathouris, who played the mechanic in the original film and has co-written a new sequel to “Mad Max”, will talk to Dounoukos about the film, the sequel, and “the Greek-Australian influence on the silver screen.”
