ZED Seselja and the Commonwealth Minister for Human Services Marise Payne have announced some musical chairs in Government shopfronts around Woden.
Marise says the new one-stop shop in Penrhyn House will offer Centrelink, Medicare and Australian Tax Office (ATO) services under the one roof.
“On Monday 15 December all staff and services from the current Medicare shopfront in Woden Westfield, the temporary Centrelink Service Centre at Penrhyn House and the ATO shopfront at Ethos House in Civic will move in together at Penrhyn House, 2-6 Bowes Street, Phillip,” she says.
“Demand for face-to-face services is decreasing nationwide, as people take advantage of other options like claiming at the doctor’s surgery, the department’s suite of Express Plus apps and myGov for online services.
“The one-stop shop will have 10 self-service terminals where staff can help people register for myGov, making it easier for them to do their government business, like lodging tax returns, online.
“Through myGov, people can access online services for Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support, the Australian Taxation Office, the Personally Controlled e-Health Record, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
“Staff can also help customers download the Express Plus apps on their mobile phones so they can conduct everyday business like updating personal details, reporting income and claiming Medicare from the palm of their hand.”
Zed has welcomed the introduction of the one-stop shop.
“The Woden One-stop Shop is the latest in Canberra to offer combined government services under the one roof, joining more than 160 communities nationwide,” Zed said.
“It is a practical example of making government services more accessible to all Australians.
“While many people are choosing alternative service options to complete their business, staff will be available at the Woden One-stop Shop to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personal or intensive support.”
