Laura arrives incognito at the party
Benjamin Murphy, a year 12 student from Narrabundah College, has been lucky enough to have one of his films has been accepted into the Viewster Online Film Festival, the largest of its kind in the world.
From hundreds, if not thousands of entries, only two Australian films were accepted, one of which was Murphy’s sophisticated 7-minute movie about fidelity and suspicion, set against a masquerade party.
Briefly, a young couple about to be married, Laura and Brian, are invited to a costume party. Laura, feeling unwell, sends her fiancée off alone. After some time she feels better and decides to go to the party. Brian has never seen her costume before, so she sees this as an opportunity to test to see how faithful he really is. There’s quite a twist at the end.
Murphy says he made “Masquerade” last year when he was 17. “It is incredibly exciting to realise that out of all the films in the world, one of those that were accepted was mine. This film festival is just as large, if not larger than Tropfest,” he adds.
So far “Masquerade” is in the top 20, but he needs to get into into the top 10 to compete for the $50 000 prize.
Good news is that Murphy has pledged to give the Fred Hollows Foundation $20,000 if he wins.
For his film to make it into the top 10, he need votes, NOW.
