FORMER Canberra soprano Lorina Gore, pictured, has told “CityNews” of her big year coming up. Not only is she a headliner (for the third time) in Opera Australia’s free “Opera in the Domain” concert at twilight on February 1 in Sydney (all welcome), but she’ll soon be heading for Auckland and Wellington to play the tragic Violetta in “La Traviata”. It’s a big role for the petite soprano who started her singing career at Tarzan’s restaurant in Kippax.

BANDLEADER and composer Joe McEvilly, pictured, tells us his jazz ensemble, Movement 9, has released its debut album “Wings” (accessible at movement9.com), inspired by the ANU School of Music protests. McEvilly, now living and working in Melbourne says: “It’s great to see the school moving forward, thanks to people there who are intent on keeping the music scene in Canberra alive and thriving.” Really?
