ANU textile student Reuben Bokaba was announced the winner of the Chief Minister Prize at the launch of the ‘Flagging our future’ exhibition last night by Minister for the Arts, Joy Burch.

‘Flagging our Future’ presents the work of students who have up-cycled the Canberra Centenary flags in an exhibition that encourages viewers to see the centenary flags in a whole new light.
Avi Amesbury, Executive Director of Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre, comments, “Bokaba’s design, titled Canberra Autumn Winds, was inspired by Canberra’s wind patterns. The full impact of the design can be fully appreciated in Peter Kongmalavong’s photograph of the piece worn by the designer himself, who is also a dancer.”
The who project was driven by Valerie Kirk, Head of Textiles at the ANU School of Art, Carlos Montana Hoyos, Convenor of Industrial Design at UC’s Facility of Arts and Design and Penny Boyer, Head of the Department of Design Industries at Canberra Institute of Technology.
Flagging our Future, Lower Level, Saraton Building, Corner East Row & City Walk in Civic, next to the bus interchange and opposite King O’Malley’s Irish Pub, open daily November 23, with the public being given the opportunity to purchase some of the artworks on Sunday.
