DESPITE the best efforts of many craft beer aficionados to drink them dry, BentSpoke Brewing Co. will tomorrow fill the last of its enormous 18-tap bar with a brew that celebrates not only the brewery’s five-month anniversary, but also the start of Canberra Beer Week.

“There’s no doubt the good folk of Canberra have been keeping me busy!” said brewer and owner Richard Watkins.

Five beers and a cider were available when the brewery opened in June this year, and since then the range has been expanded to include pale ales, a German style lager during Oktoberfest, Imperial IPAs, smoked rye ales, a gluten-free ginger beer, and a dark ale which was infused with truffle during Canberra’s truffle season.

“Our 18th beer, called the Frenzy is a raspberry infused wheat beer” said Watkins, “the perfect accompaniment for a nice Canberra summer’s day!” Which should make it popular when it’s launched at tomorrow’s Beer Day Out festival at the Old Bus Depot, the opening event of Canberra Beer Week.

It will also be launched in the brewery on Sunday as part of the BentSpoke Brewer’s Brunch which will see many of Australia’s best craft brewers hosted by In Canberra Tonight’s Chris Endrey. ($28, bookings to 6257 5220)

Other beer week events at BentSpoke include free brewery tours and the chance to win your own private brewing session with Watkins at BentSpoke.

Canberra is also blessed to have the Zierholz Brewery at Fyshwick and the Wig and Pen is currently under construction at Llewellyn Hall.
