ACT Policing detectives assigned to Taskforce Nemesis arrested three local OMCG members in three separate operations yesterday (October 23).

All three will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (October 24).

Taskforce Nemesis detectives have been investigating an incident outside Westfield Belconnen on Saturday afternoon, October 4 in which the three alleged offenders violently assaulted two other men as they exited the mall’s northern entrance.

Yesterday afternoon (October 23) police detectives, with the assistance of Specialist Response Group (SRG) tactical operatives, arrested the first of the three wanted men – a 35-year-old man from NSW – in Parkes Place, Parkes around 2pm. NSW Police, accompanied by ACT Policing detectives, then executed a search warrant on the man’s home in Crestwood NSW, and seized several items as evidence, including OMCG clothing and paraphernalia. Ammunition was also seized from the home.

Around 2.30pm yesterday, a second team of detectives stopped a truck on Canberra Avenue in Symonston and arrested a 26-year-old man from Queanbeyan, who allegedly also was involved in the Belconnen incident.

Around 7.20pm, police observed a black Holden Commodore driving into a Macgregor residence and park. Police executed a search warrant on the 27-year-old driver’s apartment and vehicle, and subsequently arrested him. Items were seized from that location.

All three men were held in custody overnight and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (October 24) charged with Affray and Participate in a Criminal Group to Cause Harm.

Last month ACT Policing launched its campaign to target the criminal activity of OMCGs. Taskforce Nemesis dovetails with Australia’s multi-agency task force, Operation Morpheus, created by the Serious and Organised Crime Coordination Committee (SOCCC) to target OMCGs nationally.

Bail will be vigorously opposed.
