ACTEW Water continues to work to undertake repairs to the burst water main in Macarthur and is again requesting that residents of Macarthur, Fadden, Gilmore, Wanniassa, Richardson and Chisholm actively minimise their water use until supply returns to normal.
Today they are working on replacing the broken pipe to the Macarthur main which will then undergo a series of testing before water can be resumed from that reservoir. Due to the size and complexity of the job, significant work is still required to get services back to normal. Once the bedding, backfilling and pressure testing is undertaken, the water supply will be returned to normal.
ACTEW Water is again urging that residents in the affected areas (click on the map) adhere to this request by not watering lawns or gardens and to refrain, unless absolutely necessary, from washing clothes and dishes, and showering or bathing.
Some residents may also experience discoloured water. The change in colour normally occurs when the natural sediment is disturbed within the pipes causing the water to take on a brown or reddish colour. This is due to redirection of water flows through the pipes.
Whilst the water remains safe to drink, it is not recommended that you drink the water if it appears, tastes or smells objectionable. Residents experiencing discoloured water are advised not to use washing machines and dishwashers during this period as it may stain clothing or clog filters.
