ASOC, the Artists’ Society of Canberra was founded in 1927 and tonight’s its annual night of nights, as curator, writer and heritage advisor Peter Haynes opens its Spring Art Competition and Exhibition in Albert Hall.

Billing itself as “a supportive creative community for visual arts and artists” the society aims to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the visual arts and to support and promote the practice of the visual arts in the ACT and region.
With a community of around 300 members who meet on a monthly basis and organise a Summer Art Experience, exhibitions, workshops, and regular classes throughout the year, it’s a time for celebration among like-minded artists and sponsors, with home cooked food, wine and organic coffee from the “Here’s the Coffee” cart.

There’ll be a Family Day on Sunday with hands-on art for kids. Also Chan Dissanayaka will lead group of watercolour artists at work in the sunshine, or in the hall if wet.
It’s also one of the biggest and most varied art shows you’ll see each year in Canberra and you can vote for your favourite artwork.
