JOY Burch has officially launched Floriade 2014, which begins in Commonwealth Park tomorrow.
Minister Burch was joined at the launch by journalist and gardening author Indira Naidoo, who will run workshops on how to garden in small spaces during the opening weekend.
“Floriade 2014 is about much more than one million bulbs in almost 8,000 square metres of garden beds,” Joy said.
“In addition to the beautiful flower displays, visitors can pick up gardening tips from experts, hear inspiring musical performances, enjoy cooking demonstrations by world-renowned chefs and keep the kids entertained with an exciting line-up of entertainment, all inspired by the 2014 theme Passion.
“Building on the success of previous years, Floriade has again been split into four themed weeks, based on Canberra’s tourism pillars: Arts and Culture, Food and Wine, Family Fun, and Outdoors and Adventure.
“Floriade attracted 448,987 visitors in 2013 and contributed more than $39.5 million in direct expenditure, the second largest attendance and the largest financial contribution to the region in the event’s 27-year history.
Floriade runs until 12 October 2014. For full program details, visit www.floriadeaustralia.com.au.
