WEST Australian author Peter Docker is in town tonight promoting his controversial new novel “Sweet One”.
Starting with real-life events, the deaths in custody of Aboriginal men in Queensland and WA, “Sweet One” published by Fremantle Press, is a thriller about the possible future of black and white relations.
Described as incendiary, thought-provoking and powerful, “the novel has Melbourne journalist Izzy travelling to outback WA to cover the death of an Aboriginal war veteran on ANZAC Day.”
Docker is a Broome actor and author whose main interest is in writing about the intersections between original and settler Australians. He writes Australian Westerns and crime novels.
He studied writing at Curtin University, Perth, and acting at Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. As well as an extensive career on stage, he has published a number of full-length literary works and short stories, and has written for stage and radio.
Tonight Docker will discuss “ Sweet One” and perform music from the soundtrack he wrote for the book.
Peter Docker, at Paperchain Bookstore, 5.45pm for 6pm tonight, Monday, September 8. RSVP to 6295 6723 or info@paperchainbookstore.com.au
