ACT Policing arrested a 16-year-old boy from Canberra’s north after a short pursuit which ended in Russell just before 4am today (Sunday, September 7).
Woden Patrol General Duties police were patrolling in the Kingston area around 3.50am when they saw a light blue Toyota Corolla turn into The Causeway.
The Corolla was identified as one which had been stolen from Macquarie earlier that evening.
Police activated warning lights and siren but the driver of the stolen vehicle failed to stop.
A short pursuit then ensued through Barton which lasted for about four minutes.
The young man attempted to evade police by driving the stolen car around concrete barriers at the western end of Russell, but ended up colliding with a barrier. He then abandoned the car and ran into bushland near Campbell, where he was later apprehended.
The driver was then conveyed to the ACT Watch House, where tests were taken which will later determine his blood alcohol content.
The youth, who was in breach of bail conditions, will face the ACT Childrens Court tomorrow (September 8) charged with ride/drive in a motor vehicle without consent, and a range of traffic offences.
