ACT Legislative Assembly

CHIEF Minister Katy Gallagher and the Green Shane Rattenbury have met and issued a joint communique expressing their satisfaction with their parliamentary agreement.

“The review of progress has shown substantial progress across all areas of the Agreement including draft legislation, funded initiatives and policy development. The majority of items in the Agreement are either completed, or on track and on time, and a substantial number of items received funding in the 2014-15 Budget,” the communique reads.

Particular areas of progress since the August 2013 review include:

  • The establishment of Capital Metro Agency, and considerable work towards light rail in the Gungahlin to City corridor;
  • Legislation to ensure 90% of ACT’s electricity comes from renewable sources by 2020;
  • $85 million agreement signed with the Federal Government for Murray-Darling Basin priority projects in the ACT to clean up our lakes and waterways;
  • Funding committed to build a secure mental health unit;
  • Establishment of an advanced care planning scheme in the ACT;
  • Further funding and progress towards Common Ground to provide an additional housing option for vulnerable Canberrans;
  • The establishment of the Community Legal Centre Hub and additional funding for the Aboriginal Legal Service;
  • Improved animal welfare in the ACT through passage of legislation to ban caged hens and sow stalls; and
  • Support to bring the Australia Forum to investment ready status.
