THAT indefatigable Indonesia expert and arts-lover, Dr George Quinn, has told “CityNews” of an unusual event coming up in the Embassy of Indonesia’s beautiful room, the Balai Kartini, named after the republic’s greatest heroine.
Next week, August 15 (Indonesia’s Independence Day is on August 17) there will be a cultural event and dinner organised by the Balai Bahasa Indonesia (ACT).
The main item on the program will be the reading of poetry in Indonesian (with English translations) by Indonesian women poets, but there will be items of dance and music as well. An Indonesian dinner will be served.
The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome. Tickets for the event are $35 for non-members and $30 for members.
Indonesian cultural evening, 6pm, Balai Kartini, Embassy of Indonesia, 8 Darwin Ave, Yarralumla, bookings close today, August 8, phone Ida at 0408 308 782 or Betsy at 0407 295 583 or Heath at 6261 1693.
