Floriade 2012-6578

FLORIADE 2014 is gearing up for the grand unveiling on Saturday 13 September.

On Monday 11 August a fence will be erected around the park to protect the event’s garden beds throughout the festival.

Alternative access arrangements will be in place for pedestrians and bike riders, and there will also be some lane closures along Parkes Way between 9.30am and 4pm on Monday 11 August while the fence is being installed.

Temporary traffic lights will also be activated on Commonwealth Avenue and the speed limit will be reduced from 70kmh to 60kmh from 9.30am on Monday 11 August. This arrangement will be in place until 5pm on Monday 27 October. These traffic lights are activated every year to allow pedestrians who normally park in the Regatta Place car park to cross Commonwealth Avenue from the Acton car park.

From Monday 18 August Commonwealth Park will be a closed construction site as the Floriade team works around the clock to ensure the site is ready for Floriade.

Visitors will still be able to access Regatta Point, the National Capital Exhibition, the Canberra Business Event Centre and The Deck restaurant. However, construction work will affect access to Regatta Point’s three car parks, which are bound by Barrine Drive, Regatta Place and Albert Street.

Access to the site and Regatta Point’s car parks will be restricted from 6am on Monday 18 August and all vehicles must be moved out of the area before this time.

Floriade, in its 27th year, will run from from Saturday, September 13 until Sunday, October 12.

The theme this year is “Passion”.
