CANBERRA artists get around: countertenor, Tobias Cole is preparing for his title role in “Akhnaten” in the August production by the State Opera South Australia, part of the “Glass Trilogy” and, in Britain, soprano Amanda Forbes is waiting for Glass to put the finishing touches to his 27th opera, “The Trial”, in which she will have a role. It’s based on Franz Kafka’s novel and the production by Music Theatre Wales will premiere at the Royal Opera House.
MEANWHILE, artist Fatima Killeen has been in North Morocco at the Symposium International d’Art Contemporain Asilah, with a residency and exhibition.
RAAW may look like the sound a lion might make, but it stands for M16 Artspace’s “Residency: Aspiring Arts Writer”. The inaugural winner is Claire Capel-Stanley. M16 has also announced, the 2014 Emerging Exhibition Prize has gone to curator Ellen V Wignell and artists Yasmin Masri, Jemima Parker, Kelly Hayes and video artist Oscar Capezio.

NAIDOC Week’s theme is “Serving Country”. A group of our own “cultural warriors”, Duncan Smith from Wiradjuri Echoes, Linda Huddleston from Burrunju Gallery, Jo Donovan from Bandu Catering and Michael Weir from Stik n Move will be at Belconnen Arts Centre in conversation with Cara Kirkwood from the NGA. Aunty Agnes Shea will open the 3pm-5pm event on Friday, July 4. Free, including afternoon tea.
THE Taipei Economic and Cultural Office has come up with a novel angle for its 2014 photographic exhibition, “A Narrative of Light and Shadow”, this time focusing on female photographers from Taiwan. The show runs at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, 2nd Floor, North Building, London Circuit, Civic, until July 24.
